Many scars need to be treated using a variety of treatment modalities. Some of the treatment options offered are listed below.
Can be used to treat a variety of scar types including surgical and acne scars, burns, and stretch marks with remarkable results on any skin type, including very light and very dark skin. Pulses of fractional laser light break down scar tissue, triggering new tissue to form in its place. It’s a fast and simple procedure with little to no downtime and minimal discomfort. Also, the ICON is one of the few FDA approved devices for stretch marks. Numerous procedures are needed for optimal results.
Utilizes gentle pulses of intense, optimized light to treat undesirable pigment and vessels and produce a more even skin tone. This is often used in combination with other devices to minimize the redness and blood vessels that often appear in scars. Numerous procedures are needed for optimal results.
Microneedling is a very safe, effective, and comfortable procedure to stimulate collagen growth to improve the appearance of acne scarring, stretch marks, and other scars. We use a microneedling device called Collagen PIN. It utilizes a sterile disposable cartridge which contains tiny needles that create controlled microscopic “injuries” to the skin. These micro punctures stimulates increased collagen and elastin production, resulting in improved texture and smoother skin. Microneedling is one of the safest procedures for darker skin types and skin that is prone to hyperpigmentation. Numerous procedures are needed for optimal results.
Subcision is a procedure used to treat atrophic scarring. The procedure may require multiple sequential treatments. A special needed is used to breakup tethers underneath the skin that may be pulling the skin down and creating divets in your scar.
Filler can also be used to treat certain types of scars, especially scars that indent in. It is often done in combination with other treatment modalities.
Kenalog injections are used to soften, flatten, and minimize symptoms of itching and burning of scars. Often used in combination with other treatments.
Botox helps to relax the muscles surrounding a scar to help improve healing and minimize scar formation. This can be especially helpful in areas were scars are under tension.
Various types of chemical peels an improve the appearance of some types of scars, such as hyperpigmented or indented scars.
There are a variety of scar and medicated creams that may help the appearance of your scar. We also work with compounding pharmacists to create custom scar creams for you depending on the appearance of your scar. Our providers will work with you to customize your treatment plan.
The procedure can be performed in as little as 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
Most people feel minimal pain during the procedures listed above. Your provider may discuss pain management options with you. Typically we will have you arrive 1 hour before your procedure to numb with a topical cream.
Most people need three to five treatment sessions for optimum results and typically multiple treatment modalities are used and often in the same session.
People typically resume their regular activities immediately following the treatment session.
Typically, most people experience a temporary redness and swelling of the scars or stretch marks which may last a few days. Your provider will discuss other potential side effects with you.
